It should be every online marketers goal to build an online business that can be ran with just a computer and an internet connection. This is vital to the success of your internet business. By doing this you are free to move about the world and work from anywhere any time.

By no means do you need to have a plush office with the finest leather furniture money can buy and the most expensive office equipment.

In fact, my office furniture came from OfficeMax and consists of a desk and a filing cabinet. That’s it!

This is absolutely a business that can make you a ton of money with a minimal investment.

So here are some great tips to help you work less and enjoy the real benefits of having an online business:

  1. First off, ground yourself, stop buying every new “internet money-making system” or following four or five “Gurus” and pick one. Become an expert at that one system, model one “Guru” that you respect and trust, and dig deep to find the things they are doing and do the same things.
  2. Use online software programs such as Google docs and Google calendar so you can access your stuff from anywhere in the world. If your computer crashes you still have access to all your important documents. Never, ever, ever leave your important files on one computer. You should have your business set up so you could go to any local library and operate your business if need be.
  3. Always back up your important files and programs on two separate flash drives and carry one with you and keep the other in a safe place outside your office or home.
  4. Be cautious of hiring employees to do work for you. These days you can outsource almost everything (product fulfillment, accounting, tech support, etc…). Believe me, hiring employees will cost you much, much more money than you would pay when you can easily accomplish the same goals with a 100% virtual staff. It just makes life easier.
  5. Think systems. When you come across something that is more complicated than it should be or creates frustration for you, find or build a system to eliminate that frustration and then document it. This will make your business more valuable if you ever decide to sell it and it is easier to duplicate the results you want to achieve when the systems are documented.
  6. Keep your office clutter free. All you really need is a computer, a phone and something to take notes on, that’s it. You would be surprised how a cluttered office will create overwhelm in your mind. Keep your mind clear and focused with a clutter free work environment!
  7. This is a biggie. You need to find and hire a really good virtual assistant. This will allow you more time freedom and give you confidence that your business will continue to run smooth even if you are on vacation.
  8. Another biggie, get an online support help-desk. Not having a good help desk will slow you down and keep you occupied with unproductive work. It save you dozens of hours a week and make your life more enjoyable and profitable.
  9. CAUTION: You should never hire a full time employee when you can hire an independent contractor and pay them by the hour to do the same work. Employees cost money, a lot of money.
  10. If you ever get to the point where you feel you need to get office space, find space that will suite your needs. Do not fall in the trap of over indulgence. Although it would be nice to have an office with a penthouse view it is not needed. For a one man show try and find a “shared” solution that includes office equipment and is furnished, has a conference room and possibly a shared receptionist. Important; try and find a lease that is month to month so you are not locked in to a long term contract.
  11. When hiring an assistant or a contractor sublet small jobs at first to get a feel for their work ethic before trusting them with larger more important tasks.
  12. Use today’s technology to mastermind with your team of assistants and contractors. Gotowebinar.com is a great way to have virtual meetings when needed and you can have them anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer and an internet connection.
  13. And finally, think recurring income, better known as “continuity”. Continuity programs give you the long term financial security that is critical in building wealth. With continuity you build a stram of income that pays on a monthly basis without having to build a new product or create a new service. Continuity is leverage at its best.
